The Lib Dem General Election campaign in North Somerset was given a flying start at a gathering of local party members, supporters and well-wishers in Portishead on Friday 9th April. At this election rally Brian Mathew was formally adopted as our parliamentary candidate for the forthcoming election on 6th May.

Lord Brian Cotter, MP for Weston-super-Mare from 1997 to 2005, gave his full support to Brian Mathew, and offered him advice taken from his own experience in gaining a seat which had been held continuously by the Conservatives since 1924.

What Brian Cotter achieved in Weston-super-Mare in 1997 can be repeated here in North Somerset in 2010.
