Huw James is a 23 year old Events Coordinator. He grew up in Portishead and now wants to represent our area as its councillor. Having seen Portishead stagnate whilst growing up with a hard-Conservative Council, he is keen to improve our local environment and transport.
Huw believes North Somerset Council has pushed out Portishead’s young professionals by providing inadequate healthcare provisions, inadequate local infrastructure, and will fight to get a better deal for Portishead.
Huw is campaigning against delays to Portishead’s railway link and supports a new skatepark for Portishead. At university he co- founded a campaign to put pressure on North Somerset Council and others to get Portishead back on track to having a railway within our lifetime. Huw further believes local government should invest in local cycle paths, bus routes, and supports plans to further open Portishead up to trade through the expansion of Bristol Airport.
Huw's Plan For Our Area
Invest in our communities
Huw is keen to see more investment in Portishead. He supports a new skatepark for the town and wants to see investment in the High Street. Huw is also campaigning for a fair deal for younger people.
Protect our environment
We live in a beautiful area and it is vital that we protect it. We are campaigning for the Lake at the Portishead Lake Grounds to be dredged, North Somerset Council have refused to do this.
Portishead railway link
Linking Portishead and Pill to Bristol with a railway would reduce congestion and improve air quality. The Conservatives have failed to make progress on this and our roads are poor quality as well.
