Yatton residents are looking forward eagerly to their new library, due to open in September. Housed in the old Yatton Infants school building, it will be much larger than the old library with many more books, DVDs and computers as well as the Parish Council office and a community room for hire.
“I am really pleased that the end of the work is in sight” said Cllr Deborah Yamanaka, North Somerset’s Liberal Democrat Executive Member covering Libraries. “The stunning building and longer opening hours should attract more users, including children after school. Having the Parish Council there also makes it more of a community building“
The original budget set in 2003 by North Somerset’s Conservatives was too low to pay for disability access work and repair the damaged windows and roof. So extra sums had to be agreed by the joint Lib Dem/ Labour Executive on 11th July to complete the library. The mezzanine floor has been funded by the generosity of the Wake Worlock Trust and makes good use of the building’s height and space.
