Deputy Leader Insults Wrington residents

Wrington’s Lib Dem Cllr Deborah Yamanaka presented a residents’ petition to save the 121 bus at last week's North Somerset Council meeting. She explained that residents were very thankful that the bus had been saved but still wanted to show the strength of feeling in Wrington.

Deborah was then taken aback by the reaction of Conservative Executive Cllr Ap Rees who described the petition as being a Lib Dem initiative and too late.

“I was outraged by Cllr Ap Rees’ insult to the Wrington residents who organised the petition” said Deborah. “It was started by Sheila Webb who runs Amors Stores in Wrington when customers were horrified by First bus’ decision to stop the 121 bus. This was not at all a Party political matter so there was no reason for Cllr Ap Rees to bring Party politics into it.”

When First announced that they intended to stop the 121 route, North Somerset Council put out an emergency tender and awarded the route back to First bus who had made the lowest bid. The difference is that now the 121 route is subsidised by the Council.

“The emergency contract only runs for a year” added Deborah “So by presenting the petition I was making the point that residents still need the bus next year and in the future. It is certainly not too late to think about next year’s contract, whatever Cllr Ap Rees says.”
