Worries over recycling under the Tories

At the May North Somerset Council meeting, Lib Dem Deborah Yamanaka, previous Executive member for the Environment, asked about recycling plans under a Tory-led North Somerset Council. She was concerned when the Tories replied that they might not carry on with plans to collect garden waste and rubbish on the same day of the week. They are collected on the same day now in some places but not everywhere in North Somerset.

Deborah also asked whether the recycling budget might be raided to pay for the Tories’ changed budget plans, such as extra scrutiny panels. The Tories said that they had made no decisions yet.

“I am really worried that the Tories will stop the improvements that Lib Dems had planned” said Deborah. “Changing collections to the same day of week would make it easier to remember and increase recycling. The Tories' past record on recycling was very poor and they voted against the garden waste collections. They talk a lot about the environment now, but actions speak louder than words”.
