Lies over fortnightly rubbish collections

Lib Dem Deborah Yamanaka confronted North Somerset Tory Leader Nigel Ashton with the accusation that Tories had telephoned residents with the untruthful claim that Lib Dems were planning fortnightly rubbish collections. Nigel Ashton denied that these phone calls ever happened, at the May Council meeting.

“It seems strange that many residents tell us of these phone calls and yet the Tory Leader knows nothing about them” said Deborah Yamanaka “It is said that the first casualty of war is the truth, and I think this may also apply to elections.”

The Daily Mail had started the rumour by incorrectly listing North Somerset as a Council actively considering the introduction of fortnightly rubbish collections. If the Mail had bothered to check with North Somerset’s Waste Management department they would have been told that there were no such plans.
