At Tuesday's Council meeting the North Somerset Tory Executive presented a
budget with many unexplained items.
"The Tories' budget is full of holes" said Lib Dem Cllr Deborah Yamanaka.
"We decided not to put forward Lib Dem amendments before the meeting as too
little information was available. But we will oppose the increased charges
for Home and Respite Care and any damaging cuts at scrutiny panels and will
support new measures to reduce energy use in Council buildings which should
pay for themselves in 3 years."
The draft budget was referred from the Executive in the week before
Christmas to Council on 6th January which did not allow time for in-depth
opposition amendments. The budget did not show what Council Tax rise was
planned and included unidentified and unexplained cuts of over half a
million. One cut of £50,000 is proposed by closing "less frequently used
public conveniences" without say where these toilets are.
Deborah added "The lack of information makes it very difficult for Parish &
Town Councils and residents to give their opinions during the so-called
budget consultation period. But presumably the Tories are not interested in
hearing from anyone else and will go ahead regardless."
