For the creative and cultural sectors, the COVID-19 crisis has been catastrophic. As the country went into lockdown, venues closed and productions were called off, leaving many people in the industry without employment.

Weston General Hospital is now fully open to new patients

The continued actions taken by Weston General Hospital mean that the hospital is now in a position to safely accept patients into its A&E department from today (Thursday 18 June 2020). This is the final step to re-open the hospital to new patients. The A&E department is open between the usual hours of 8am-10pm every day. In addition, all clinics have restarted and the hospital continues to receive patients who, due to the temporary closure, were initially admitted to our neighbouring hospitals for their care and treatment.]

Portishead East Councillor Resigns from District

Portishead Independent Councillor, Paul Gardner, has unexpectedly resigned from North Somerset Council. Cllr Gardner’s resignation came during the Coronavirus Pandemic. A notice from North Somerset Council’s Returning Officer, Nick Brain, said:

“Notice is hereby given that due to the resignation of Paul Gardner, a vacancy has arisen in the Office of Councillor for the said District Ward. If by 30 June 2020 (14 days excluding Dies Non, after the date of this notice) a request for an election to fill said vacancy is made in writing to the Returning Officer at the address below by TWO electors for the District of North Somerset, an election will be held to fill the said vacancy, otherwise the vacancy will be filled by co-option. However, if an election is requested, a poll cannot currently take place until 6 May 2021 as a result of the Coronavirus Act 2020 and the 2020 Regulations.”

Liberal Democrat Councillors at North Somerset Council launched an Inquiry Day into Weston General Hospital’s Major Outbreak on Thursday 4th June. Robert Woolley, CEO of University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust, has agreed to Cllr Huw James’ calls for an Inquiry Day into the outbreak that has closed the hospital to admissions since 8am on Monday 25th May.
